The development of 7+ star rating homes is a priority for us at Midas Touch Towers. The homes we build for our clients are designed and certified to have a limited to zero effect on the environment, are very low maintenance, and are built to be as self-sufficient as possible. 

The International Energy Agency recommends advanced economies to have a “zero-carbon-ready building code” in place by the end of the 2020s. This would ensure all new buildings in the 2030s will be zero or near-zero carbon.

A 7+ star rating home will use an average of 24.5% less energy. Plus, the simple act of energy conservation will assist in preventing climate change and help our innovative team to overcome the challenges of acheiving a green economy from the infrastructure we build and the products we develop and use.

Consumer modus operandi:

In recent years the average price for residential electricity has increased by 65% — and it continues to trend upward. The conventional household now uses more air conditioning, appliances, and consumer electronics than ever before and on average the monthly household electricity bill is $111.75  and annually $1,341.00. We believe that higher standards would reduce energy consumption to near zero, providing a buffer against energy price spikes and increases. Low or negative energy bills (as a result of payments for exporting electricity) will largely offset the initial cost of building better-performing homes. Plus, households will be less vulnerable to wider climate events. The average quarterly water bill is $272. This works out to be $1088 per year, $90.67 per month, or $20.92 per week.

The average monthly water usage in the United States varies depending on the source, but estimates range from 2,400 to 3,100 gallons per month for an individual. For a family of two, the average water usage is approximately 6,090 gallons per month. For a family of four, the average water usage is estimated to be around 12,000 gallons per month.

SUMMARY

In short, the average household of two uses around 138 gallons / 522 litres of water every single day. When you take into account all the different ways that water is used the average household can waste 180 gallons per week, or 9,400 gallons of water annually, from household leaks.

All of the non-potable water that the building uses comes from the site. Moreover, it treats all of its sanitary discharge.

How the system works

Rooftops collect and capture rainwater, which is then held in cisterns for human use and in lagoons and constructed wetlands for stormwater management. Pervious surfaces let water absorb into the earth. Subsurface sand filters help purify wastewater as does a solar distillation system and settlement tanks. No potable water is used for irrigation.

Conventional home maintenance costs range from $950 to $9,820. Major home repairs cost much more, plus if you live in an area with natural disasters, your average annual home maintenance would increase due to related repairs. Conventional homeowners need to budget 1% to 3% of their home’s value a year for home maintenance.
